The Second Annual YP Symposium in memory of Meghan Hackett was held on November 13, 2008 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa. The YP Symposium started out with an introduction by the 2008 Young Professional Symposium Chair, Joey Anderson. The first session of the day was with keynote speaker, Saundra Pelletier speaking of how to get more out of life by winning our battle of balance. She stressed how to focus on your achievement by adjusting your attitude.
The day continued with several breakout sessions. Saundra Pelletier, keynote speaker, spoke on how to focus on making a positive impact in professional relationships. This helped YPs understand ways to make a good first impression in their professional and personal relationships. Other breakout sessions included such topics as decision making, investing to increase your portfolio, a CEO panel, media relations, making authentic and meaningful connections, understanding the Enneagram and stress management tools.
The day concluded with a hilarious presentation from Jeff Havens on "Uncrapify Your Life." This session was focused on making one feel better by using humor to focus less on the negative issues. Jeff used several techniques that provided everyone with laughter. Attendees were also able to network with other young professionals during a special networking reception that concluded the YP Symposium.
As a continued part of the YP Symposium, Young Professionals of Dubuque presented Natalie Sacco with the Outstanding Young Professional of Dubuque Award in memory of Meghan Hackett. The Symposium and the award were created in 2007 to honor the memory of Meghan who was instrumental in the development of the Young Professionals of Dubuque. Hence, the award is given to the Young Professional that demonstrates superior involvement in YPD. Natalie was chosen from several applicants for her continued success and involvement in the marketing of YPD over the past year. Natalie helped develop the Young Professionals of Dubuque website and raised awareness of the organization in the Dubuque community.
