About the 2007 YP Symposium

On November 15, 2007 Young Professionals of Dubuque (YPD) presented the 1st Annual YP Symposium In Memory of Meghan Hackett at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa. It brought hundreds of local area professionals together in the spirit of learning new skills, networking with others, and growing their professional knowledge.

Symposium breakout sessions included: “Growing a Sustainable Business”, “When Conversations Turn Crucial… What You Say Next!”, “Generations in the Workplace,” “Hiring the ‘Right’ People,” “The Behavioral Characteristics of Success Beyond - The Power and the Dollar”, “Balancing Life Through Play and Laughter” and many others.

As a special part of the 1st Annual YP Symposium, YPD presented Gina Blasen with the Outstanding Young Professional Award in Memory of Meghan Hackett. The Symposium and award were dedicated to the memory of Meghan, the original visionary of YPD. Meghan guided YP through its inception, kick-off and first months of operation with a passion largely unseen in the business world. At a great loss to YP and the Dubuque community, Meghan passed away in November of 2006.

Gina helped implement Meghan’s vision by stepping up as Social/Cultural Committee Co-Chair planning events like Symphony Uncorked and an American Lady Riverboat cruise that helped get members actively involved in the organization and tri-state area. Her drive and motivation led the committee to create new ways to engage YPs and encourage them to meet new people.
